Rites of Passage: a Creative Writing & Artistic Journey
Leaders: Writer, Michael Guerra & Artist, Beth Ann Short
We all have rituals in our daily lives. Some of us can not start the day without a cup of coffee or a morning shower. But what about the moments in your life that clearly changed the way you think and feel? In this two-part workshop we will explore Rites of Passage mixing words, memorabilia, and art. Utilizing the traditions of the Mexican retablo, we will commemorate the most meaningful events and memories in our lives. Birth, marriage, life changing experiences, even death, and spiritual awakenings all share a presence in this rich cultural heritage.  Participants will engage in a creative writing exercise to generate images and ideas for a personal retablo.
Join us, and together we can explore our own passages into who we are.
April 11th from 1-4pm
April 18th from 1-3pm
Cost: $50
All materials included.  Participants in this workshop will also have 4 hours of FREE open studio time to work on their art piece outside of class IF they would like the time.

Glass Pendants & Rings
Leader: Monica Kaul
Create beautifully fired, hand cut glass pendants without a kiln!  These are the latest in jewelry fashion statements and they are simply gorgeous. These pendants are quick to make with stunning results.  Making just one is simply not enough so in this class we'll make at least THREE completed pendants (or rings) to take home as a gift to yourself or for someone else. We'll also discuss unique tips for working with your own photographs to create customized pendants that are edged in silver. I've made and sold hundreds of these glass tile jewelry pieces and will show you the methods that work best. Others offer similar classes to bring you into their store and promote their products — in this class, you'll receive straight forward information about the best sources for purchasing supplies and often at below-retail prices. The money saved can easily make up for the price of this class. All the legwork has been done, there's no need to spend time trying to figure it all out. Join us. You'll be so glad you did!

Art History: Artists Intent & Process
Series II: Fauvism
Leader: Beth Ann Short MA, ATR-BC
Did you ever look at a classic piece of art and wonder what was behind the art and it’s composition?  Art making is a complex process that involves technique/use of materials as well as telling a story with the media.  In art therapy, art therapists use assessment techniques in supporting individuals through the therapeutic process.  These assessment techniques take into consideration many formal points in the art process as well as clinical theory and the individual’s life experiences.
In this lecture series participants will journey through multiple periods of art history with a board certified registered art therapist examining the art and artist’s experience considering these points of assessment.   Participants will learn about the featured artist’s life, process in creativity and see visual proof of the therapeutic use of art-making in the creator’s life.
Expect rich discussions in this interactive series. This inspiring workshop is designed for adults over the age of 18.  These interactive lectures may be taking in the entire series or individually.
